Girls Build LA Leadership Summit

On Friday, December 15, 2017, fifty-four 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Pio Pico girls were among more than 10,000 others for a very unique experience at the Los Angeles Convention Center. These happy, enthusiastic girls were invited guests to learn about empowering girls to do great things by former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, current U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and several leaders in business.

Leading them on this exciting trip were Principal Dr. Miranda Ra'oof, Ms. Myles, Ms. Peraza, Ms. Lainey, and Mr. Walls. One student, Juanita Garcia, was even interviewed and did a fantastic job speaking on Fox 11 News! Not only were our students among the best dressed to fit the occasion, everyone cooperated to make this a trip one each will long remember.

Principal's Message

Panther Paw Quote:

“Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it because no one else will.” - Ghandi

Principal’s Message:

Dearest Teachers, staff, and students:

I realize that teaching can be rewarding, challenging, and a constant push forward toward academic success and empowerment. I want you to know that I am in the trenches with you pushing hard to make sure that all students make it to the finish line. We must work hard and take what we do seriously because all of our students deserve a good education.

Lastly, thank you in advance, for attending the Back to School Night and for speaking with, parent about, classroom expectations and how they can work with their children for academic success.

Panther Paw Quote 9/4/17

When you complain, you make yourself a victim. Leave the situation, change the situation, or accept it. All else is madness. (Eckhart Tolle)

Principal’s Message:

Dearest Teachers, Staff, and Students,
I would like for you to look at your own circumstances and recognize them as positive, productive, and progressive. Through social media, television, radio, etc. we witness daily the unfortunate circumstances of others. I encourage you to see what you can do to correct, change and or make the circumstances around you better than you inherited them. Teachers try to improve you way of thinking, instructing, and grading. Staff members improve your way of supporting the teachers and students. Students improving your way of thinking, learning, and, playing. And we should all improve our self-talk.
Remember to be Safe Respectful and Responsible.

Respectfully submitted,

Dr. M. Ra’oof

Panther Paw New Years Quote

Panther Paw Quote “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
--Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Happy New Year! Welcome 2017! Welcome back teachers, staff, and students, to another wonderful year at Pio Pico Middle School! We have another exciting year ahead of us. The challenge set before us this year is to achieve greatness and we can do it! And this year, to support our efforts in achieving greatness are some wonderful academic programs, for example ALEKS math, AVID, AVID EXCEL, Music, Modern Band, and individual tutoring. Beyond the Bell and the UCLA Amigos programs are two examples of after school at Pio Pico Middle School that supports or efforts in building academic success.

During the months of February, March, April, May, and June students will be prepared to be assessed, mentally, and physically, attend the Black and white Ball, the eight-grade picnic, and culmination. There will also be field trips to colleges and motivational assemblies to attend and participate.

For the record, I want you to take a look at the information about how to report Bullying and Hazing (Policy) that is (Student-to-Student and Student-to-Adult)-See Bulletin 5212.2.

Recognizing the mantra from our School Wide Behavior Support is always remembered, that is to be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible.

Let’s have a Marvelous Year in 2017!!!

Ships don’t sink because of the water around them; ships sink because of the water that gets in them. Don’t let what’s happening around you get inside you and weigh you down…Author Unknown

Principal’s Message:

Dearest Teachers,

With ten days behind us I feel like we have started a marathon of school days and learning. At the Buy Back Day I asked you to remember to take attendance daily at every period to reach the Attendance Goal of 100%. I also asked you to be aware of the students that need more assistance especially with English Reclassification. And finally I asked you to teach the students using challenging methods with fidelity for higher academic achieve. I realize that this takes hard work and a constant push forward.

Well, I want you to know that I am right here with you pushing you every step of the way and pulling the students through to the finish line. We must work harder and better and take what we do seriously because our students depend upon us to help them through middle school. I encourage you to take the Admissions Day and Labor Day holidays to regenerate and renew yourselves to be able to continue to push forward toward building your teaching and learning capacity. As a reminder, lets continue to build using Common Core Instructional learning strategies and; focus on using academic language and quality and purposeful questioning.

Lastly, thank you in advance for attending the student orientations and for using the student agenda as a guide to remind students of how to conduct themselves while they are on campus.

Dr. Miranda L. Ra’oof,
